The Athlone House of Strength (AHOS) is a shelter for abused women and children and provides a stable, caring and safe environment to the women and children.
The Holland Early Learning Centre is part of AHOS. Babies and toddlers who are staying in the shelter, as well as children from the community are cared for at the centre. The centre can accommodate 40 babies and toddlers.
Project needs:
- Toiletries/ nappies: baby soap, baby powder, snappers, baby pilchards, baby shampoo, nappies, fissan paste, Vaseline, pacifiers, baby face cloths, baby towels, multi vitamins
- Toys: building blocks, puzzles, lego, colouring books and pencils, mon armis, abacus, clay, drawing boards
- Office furniture/ appliances: office desks, office chairs, printers
- Food: milk, tea, coffee, meat, chicken, fruit, vegetables, bread, baby purity, baby porridge, baby milk (pelargon, nesquick, lactogen, nan, infacare), butter
- Stationary/ books: children books (1-12 yr), scrap paper, pens, pencils
- Clothing: baby clothing (0-2yr), underware e.g., panties (2-12yr), vests, pantyhose (s, m, l), underpants (2-12yr), t-shirts (boys and girls 2-12yr)
- Cutlery and crockery: knives, forks, plates, bowls, cake forks, spoons, glasses, dessert spoons
- Furniture/ kitchen and other electrical appliances: snackwich machine, toaster, stoves, kitchen table and chairs, couches, kettles, carpets, single beds, prams
- Bedding and linen: single duvets, comforters, cushions, pillowcases, blankets, sheets, towels
- Cleaning products: tile cleaner, cleaning cloths, mops, handy andy, window, cleaner, polisher, washing powder, dishwashing liquid, towels
- Vehicle: small vehicle (for attending workshops)
- Arts and crafts: material, wool, beads, paint
- Volunteer: 2 volunteers needed weekly
- Training: programmes to strengthen family relationships, workshops: hygiene, children’s rights
